Ruoyun Chen is an independent filmmaker and curator. A fellow at the MIT Open Documentary Lab. Her work has been showcased at film festivals in Europe and North America and art galleries. Chen is currently directing and producing their first feature-length documentary, People’s Republic of Letters. The film has been incubated in MIT Open Doc Lab, UnionDocs Production Lab, selected to the IDFA Producer’s Connection 2024,
FIRST Documentary Lab 2025 and supported by NYSCA.
In addition to filmmaking, Chen curated the film series Mother Tongue (2025) in New York. In MIT Open Doc Lab, she is developing an immersive interactive sound installation, Day 41: A Final Blessing, reflecting themes of displacement. Chen has a background in engineering and spent a decade in academia before transitioning to filmmaking. She pursued her Master of Science and PhD at Cornell University, majoring in System Engineering and minoring in Information Science.
陈若昀,出于西安,在成都上幼儿园,三岁搬至北京生长到十八岁后到南京上大学。本科毕业后在伊萨卡度过十年,现居布鲁克林。父籍福建母籍辽宁。康奈尔工科硕士、博士,在漫长的读博期间开始写歌,做影像,偶尔写诗。现为纪录片工作者,MIT Open Documentary Lab Fellow。目前正在制作首部纪录长片《散步之年》。
